Washington, D.C. – Today, CHC BOLD PAC – the campaign arm of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus – announced the election of Congresswoman Linda Sánchez (CA-38) as the organization’s next Chair. The announcement comes on the first day of Women’s History Month. Incoming Chairwoman Sanchez will be the first woman ever to lead the organization.

“Incoming Chairwoman Linda Sánchez is a steadfast champion for hard-working families in California and across America. For over 20 years, she has been a trailblazer and relentless fighter for progressive values – including being the first Latina elected to a leadership position in Congress. She’s made history again as the first woman elected to lead BOLD PAC and on the first day of Women’s History Month, I’m especially excited to celebrate her election,” said CHC BOLD PAC Chairman Ruben Gallego. “She brings tremendous experience, courage, and wisdom to everything she does and will take BOLD PAC to the next level as Chairwoman.”

“It’s an honor to be elected as the first woman ever to lead BOLD PAC,” said Rep. Linda Sánchez. “Last cycle, BOLD PAC made history by electing the largest Democratic CHC ever. And while this Congress is the most diverse in history, there is so much work left to be done. Though Hispanics account for nearly 19% of the population, we make up only 10% of Congress. The same is true for women – we represent just over 28% of Congress, far less than our share of over 50% of the US population. As we continue our fight to increase diversity in Congress, my top priority will be to ensure that the Latino community is central to the political process. That means defending our incumbents and making sure that Latino, and especially Latina, candidates are encouraged to run for office nationwide and have the resources they need to win. That’s the only way to ensure that Congress represents all Americans.”

REP. LINDA SÁNCHEZ

A former labor lawyer, mom, and proud daughter of immigrants from Mexico, Congresswoman Linda Sánchez represents California’s 38th congressional district.

Prior to being elected to Congress, Congresswoman Sánchez worked for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), where she began working on compliance cases for Orange County. As the first IBEW woman elected to Congress and co-founder of the House Labor and Working Families Caucus, she also worked to establish a pro-labor agenda in Congress while supporting workers’ rights and American families.

Congresswoman Sánchez’s strategic leadership and substantive policy expertise have been crucial to the progress House Democrats have achieved for working families. She has been a fierce guardian of Social Security and a strong advocate for the resources needed to improve the lives of all Americans. She has proven herself as a national leader on issues facing the Latino community, supporting both the Dream and Promise Act and a pathway for Dreamers to become citizens. Congresswoman Sánchez introduced the Gender Equality in Health Premiums Act. The plan prohibits health insurance providers from charging women higher prices than men and was passed as part of the Affordable Care Act in 2010.

CHC BOLD PAC

BOLD PAC is the campaign arm of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) and is dedicated to increasing diversity in the House and Senate by getting more Latinos and Latinas elected. In 2022, BOLD PAC elected the largest Democratic CHC in history, bringing nine new Latinos to the House, including four in seats that were picked up by House Democrats. This was the result of over $6 Million in direct investments for Latino candidates, the largest sum in the organization’s history. Additionally, BOLD PAC played an integral role in protecting the Democratic majority in the Senate by helping re-elect Senator Catherine Cortez Masto, the first and only Latina in the Senate.
