El Este de Las Vegas sin luz
Un apagón en el este de Las Vegas dejó sin electricidad a más de 2,000 clientes de NV Energy. El corte afectó la zona cercana a Nellis Blvd. y Washington Ave. La causa del apagón está siendo investigada por NV Energy. Se desconoce el tiempo de recuperación del servicio eléctrico en la zona afectada. Las autoridades recomiendan precaución y paciencia a los residentes mientras se resuelve la situación. Hoy Las Vegas cumple 119 años…
El origen del moderno centro de Las Vegas se remonta a hace 119 años, este miércoles, cuando una subasta de tierras marcó un hito al convertir el asentamiento en el desierto en un pueblo. El 15 de mayo de 1905, una subasta de tierras propiedad de una compañía ferroviaria fundó el sitio del pueblo de Las Vegas. Una multitud de varios miles, muchos de Los Ángeles y Salt Lake City, Utah, se reunieron para comprar lotes en los 20 bloques vendidos a través de la futura Union Pacific Railroad. El senador de Montana, William Clark, propietario mayoritario del ferrocarril, compró las tierras que ahora son el centro de Las Vegas y sus derechos de agua tres años antes a Helen Stewart, quien era dueña del Rancho Las Vegas donde ahora se encuentra el Parque Histórico Estatal Viejo Fuerte Mormón de Las Vegas. Ni pensarlo: rechazan propuesta para prohibir fumar en casinos
Los accionistas de Boyd Gaming rechazaron abrumadoramente una propuesta para estudiar los posibles efectos de adoptar una política de no fumar en toda la empresa. La Corte Suprema de Nevada ha rechazado un intento de poner la financiación del estadio de béisbol de los A’s en la boleta electoral para los votantes. Cinco jueces formaron la mayoría que respaldó el fallo del Tribunal de Distrito sobre Schools Over Stadiums, el grupo que buscaba incluir la medida en la boleta electoral de 2024. Llamaron inválido al referéndum por violar la resolución completa del texto de la Constitución de Nevada, y por tener una “descripción de efecto legalmente inadecuada”. Los jueces Elissa Cadish, Douglas Herndon, Lidia Stiglich, Linda Bell y Parraguirre firmaron la opinión mayoritaria.
El Dorado High School da marcha atrás y los estudiantes sí podrán portar insignias culturales en su graduación
La escuela Eldorado High School originalmente negó la autorización para el uso de insignias culturales en la ceremonia de graduación. La madre de una estudiante de último año informó de esta decisión a la ACLU de Nevada quien intervino y a las pocas horas la escuela revocó su decisión y apruebó el uso de las insignias. El distrito escolar reafirma el derecho de los estudiantes a usar símbolos culturales según la ley. Varios estudiantes han estado ahora, recibiendo el beneplacito para usar este tipo de elementos, principalmente estolas, que les unen a sus raices culturales.
